It may be a short story, but there was nothing short in the writing! I was pulled in to Miranda' s story and her adventure at sea. Little twist and turns that Miss Coble writes so well. Doctor Phillip' s own journey tugged at my heart from word one! I can still see each of the characters in my mind as Miss Coble knows how to vividly created weave words together to leave lasting impressions in the readers mind. Another amazing story by Colleen Coble! Just think....if her short stories are this well written and worth the time, how much more there is to discover in her full length novels!!! :)

Set Sail My Heart eBook Colleen Coble Reviews

I really liked he story line. I was captivated from the beginning to the end. It was not clear where the ship was sailing from and if the ship was a steam ship or clipper ship but the plot carried it along until the end. I was disappointed in the quick conclusion to the story also but I liked the rest of it enough that I could let that go. I am a fan of trans-oceanic travel so the story captured my interest as soon as she said that she was leaving "tomorrow".. This is not one of Colleen Coble's best books but it was still good.
I was very disappointed in this book. First off, there was nothing to indicate that it was a novella when I made my purchase. It was only after I had downloaded it that I realized it was a short story, not a novel. I realize how difficult it is to write a novella and incorporate all the elements of a good story into a shorter amount of words, but this book just doesn't cut it. The characters are stereotypical, the dialogue sometimes silly at best. This was not up to Ms. Coble's usual writing standards. I'm glad I didn't pay more than a dollar for it.
A romance novella, Set Sail My Heart, introduces us to Miranda Leyton, an unemployed nanny who decides to accept her brother's invitation to join him in Australia. On her journey by sea, she meets and begins to assist Dr. Phillip Jackson, a confirmed bachelor with no patience for the plots of husband hunting women. An unscrupulous member of the British gentry suspects that Miranda carries some important papers for her brother and pretends a romantic interest to gain access to them. This is a wonderful story for romance lovers and a highly recommended book, a quick read that's hard to put down.
I'm going to be honest and say that I would have liked to give this book a lower rating.
HOWEVER. I did not, because for the length and style of the book, I thought it was quite OK.
I read this book in under an hour and can only assume that it's a book for someone to quickly read while on a flight or something of that nature. The romance was almost non-existent, there were horrible gaps in time where she could have made her book longer while filling it in, but she didn't. She took what could have been an enjoyable and decent sized novel and condensed it into what I believe would have been a couple hundred pages or less. I'm not too sure since I was reading it on my .
I understand how the novel was intended to be written and what audiences it was supposed to appeal to. But for anyone coming onto this page for reviews and expects it to be a good read instead of a quick one where you forget about it the next morning, STAY AWAY. I know it's $0.99, but it's truly not worth it if that's what you're looking for.
For anyone looking for a cute, quick read, I would recommend this to you.
If you enjoy books about the long journeys people had to endure on sailing ships back in the 1800s, then you will truly appreciate Colleen Coble's book "Set Sail My Heart". Her delightful description of a young lady around 20 who travels from sooty London to join her brother on Australia is very interesting in that we find she's a Christian with a heart of compassion toward everyone around her. A medical doctor on board sees her vitality and invites her to assist him in caring for the patients he serves aboard this ship.

We read as her story unfolds, and are blessed time and again as she not only ministers to people physically, but also shares her faith, even to leading a much wanted bible study in her second class steerage. And men are also interested in getting to know her better. She has never had a love interest, so this is a new experience for her to learn.

I really enjoyed the author's timely message and her knowledge of sailing on the ocean. The book is a short read and the pace moves along, but it is a happy ending. I think even youg teens would enjoy reading "Set Sail My Heart" by Colleen Cable.
Very juvenile writing. Predictable storyline and much too easy solutions for everything. Heroine gets dismissed, immediately receives a letter with a lot of money and of course also immediately finds a ship that sails to Australia THE VERY NEXT DAY. Very easy journey, no troubles, no storms, no doldrums, nothing. All people are very friendly and welcoming.
Upon arrival in Australia, we get no reaction whatsoever from the heroine about her brand-new, different environment. She also finds her brother at once, and everybody lives happily ever after.
Rainbows and unicorns. Not my taste.
If you're looking for a fast paced read, this novella should appeal to you. Colleen Coble just has a special way of conveying God's love in her books.

The time is 1875 and Miranda Leyton prepares to leave London, closing this chapter on her life. She will join her brother, Nathan, in Australia. Along with her, she carries important secret documents, sent by her brother, that she is to keep safe from any unscrupulous people.

On the four month voyage, Miranda encounters many problems along with Doctor Phillip Jackson, whom she finds hard to like with his boorish mannerisms. The Doctor's fiancee has just left him standing at the altar and he's vowed to never let another woman close.

Lord Geoffrey Brewster is gentlemanly and seems very interested in Miranda and her family. But, how does he feel about spiritual matters, and is he a God-fearing man? These qualities mean more to Miranda than good looks and wealth. And the story unfolds with many complexities that are resolved into a predictable ending.

A relaxed, enjoyable read with a fast tempo. I rated it 3.5 stars.
